Thanks to funding from Maverick Stars Trust we were delighted to run an 8 week Veterans programme last year with the aim of providing support and opportunities for veterans of the British Armed Forces.
Many veterans encounter problems upon leaving the forces with poor mental and physical health and low self-confidence key amongst them. Some find it hard to adjust to a new and less structured environment, struggling to find their way.
This has contributed to a veteran suicide epidemic in recent years.
Increasingly, boxing clubs are becoming excellent community hubs and physical activity had a positive influence on mental well-being, increasing motivation and relaxing mood and stress levels.
Our programme offered 8 weeks of free boxing sessions delivered by veterans who are qualified boxing coaches and former or current amateur boxers and provide an opportunity to have fun and get fit with likeminded people.
